PRESS RELEASE

Julian, California, - Super Horse Camp - April 4, 2005

Private Sponsor gives a "Leg Up" to Super Horse Camp.

Super Horse Camp has been developed to provide youths 9-16 years old with an intensive horsemanship experience and follow-through that lasts an entire year. Says Kathleen Kenner, "We provide the horses, the technology, and our commitment to improving writing and thinking skills.  Our campers provide the passion, and learn to plot out a realizable plan for achieving their dreams.  Writing develops in parallel, as a tool for recording data and synthesizing results, and planning each successive step."

The Kenner Ranch provides an exciting, adventurous, 1870 era horse and cattle ranch for the development of youth literacy and critical thinking skills as well as horsemanship, through its Goal Rush Rider Program.  Super Horse Camp is its pioneering week-long immersion version of the Goal Rush Rider Program.  During a week of intensive and fun hands-on interactions with horses, young campers will have the opportunity to develop both their horsemanship skills, and their abilities to create personal goals and to measure advances toward those goals in an easy to understand step-by-step manner.

A private sponsor has volunteered to provide scholarship support for the program, in order to make it available to more youths.  "The ability to write a coherent report or to justify one's job begins with organized thinking and clear, correct writing." Two full scholarship, and a limited number of partial scholarships are being offered as incentives for literacy improvement.

Local employers are not alone in their desire to see improved writing skills.  Colleges have begun screening applicants with an eye toward literacy as well:  new SAT requirements will include a short essay, rather than much less informative word analogies.

Program originator Brian Kenner summed up the Goal Rush experience: "
The Julian Goal Rushâ„¢ programs are mentoring programs for middle school and high school students, to assist in establishing goals, and recognize successes, while developing self-reliance and self- esteem."

Open house for Super Horse Camp is April 24, May 29. Jun 11.  See
